Fabulous Strike’s 6 ½-length victory in the Panhandle Handicap at Mountaineer Park on May 5 was awarded the year’s highest Equibase® Speed Figure of 133, according to Equibase Company LLC, the North American Thoroughbred industry’s official database for racing information.
Equibase today released the final lists of the top Equibase Speed Figures earned in each racing division in North America during 2007. The lists are available through the Racing Leaders section at http://www.equibase.com.
Owned by Walter Downey and trained by Todd Beattie, Fabulous Strike earned the top figure in his first start of the year, completing the five-furlong contest in :57.18. He won three of his four starts in 2007, capped by a victory in the Grade 1 Vosburgh Stakes.
Rounding out the top five winning performances of 2007 by Equibase Speed Figures were Midnight Lute, 129, Forego Stakes; Smokey Stover, 128, Sunshine Millions Padua Stables Sprint Stakes; Corinthian, 126, Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile; and Lawyer Ron, 126, Whitney Handicap.
The Equibase Speed Figure is the world’s most widely distributed speed figure and is published in approximately 23 million official past performance programs sold in North America annually. The figure is a numerical assessment of the quality of a horse’s final time in a North American Thoroughbred race.
