Equibase Company today announced that it will relaunch as a full retail web site with e-commerce capabilities on Friday, August 20. Among the many changes that are contemplated for the site, the company plans to use the platform to sell its popular fan friendly race pages directly to consumers.

Company chairman Alan Marzelli said the company's decision to do so fits in nicely with recent industry-wide efforts to grow racing's fan base through a variety of initiatives.

"The fan friendly race pages have already been introduced in ten live markets, but the power of the Internet allows us to take this concept nationwide for all tracks," he said. "In doing so we hope to expand racing's fan base by addressing the needs of casual racing fans with a product specifically designed to educate newcomers.

"As part of our plan to develop into a comprehensive source of timely information for Thoroughbred racing, we are pursuing key strategic alliances within the industry," Marzelli continued. "In that regard, we are pleased to announce that Equibase and Daily Racing Form have entered into a cross promotional agreement whereby Daily Racing Form will become the exclusive advertiser of handicapping products on and provide us with editorial content and past performances on the site for selected races.

"The fan friendly race pages serve as the perfect complement to Daily Racing Form, which has all of the information the sophisticated racing fan needs, and the two products will be positioned as such in the electronic marketplace."

While the fan friendly race pages serve as the cornerstone of Equibase's premium online service, ChartPlusTM, featuring a visual simulation of how the race was run and a full result chart, is also available. Categorized meet statistics for all active jockeys and trainers round out the premium information.

Basic racing information, including workouts, entries, summary results, past seven day result charts and program changes, remains a complimentary feature of, as are new features such as "in today" and "national leaders" lists which make it easier for fans to follow the sport.

Marzelli also said the Company intends to leverage the site's substantial traffic into advertising opportunities for both industry and non-industry sponsors.

"Monthly site usage has grown to the point where has become an attractive advertising vehicle for non-Thoroughbred businesses seeking to reach our market," he said. "To maximize these opportunities, we have contracted with a leading online advertising company, Adsmart, to provide advertising sales representation on our behalf to non-industry businesses."

Equibase Company LLC is a partnership of The Jockey Club and the member racetracks of the Thoroughbred Racing Associations of North America, and serves as the Thoroughbred industry's official database of racing information.
