Oaklawn Park Race 4 for Sunday, March 18, 2018
Handicapped by The Turf Club Analysts
Oaklawn Park - Race #4 - Post: 2:52pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $25,000 Class Rating: 79
#1 NEWS BOX (ML=8/1)
#6 CUMBER (ML=5/1)
NEWS BOX - A thoroughbred coming back this promptly after a nice contest is a good sign. When this jockey and handler team up you have to take a look. Birzer and Van Berg have been fantastic together. Widely used angle - 3rd or 4th start after a vacation generally leads to a big effort. Going to run a good one. CUMBER - Look for this one to go straight to the winner's circle at some respectable odds in today's race. Ran fifth in last race, but not more than 5 from the lead at the finish. Trainer, Asmussen, has been deliberate with this colt off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. Adding blinkers occasionally leads to an improved performance on the racetrack.
Vulnerable Contenders: #9 CALL A COP (ML=3/1), #5 BEAT THE HEAT (ML=4/1), #10 HIDDEN BAMBOO (ML=5/1),
CALL A COP - The sixth place finish in the last race coming after the very long layoff is definitely not a positive indication. BEAT THE HEAT - Finished second in his most recent race with a mediocre speed figure. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to score after that in this group. HIDDEN BAMBOO - Can't wager on this horse in today's sprint of 6 furlongs. Hasn't even finished in the money in a short distance race recently.
