RACE #3 - BELMONT PARK - 1:54 PM EASTERN POST

The Bold Ruler Handicap

7.0 FURLONGS DIRT GRADE III THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD STAKES $200,000.00 PURSE

#4 SALUTOS AMIGOS
#6 RIVER ROCKS
#2 ROMANSH
#1 CONFRONTATION

For you folks who enjoy a little Thoroughbred Racing History to accompany your handicapping efforts this afternoon here at Belmont Park ... Bold Ruler was foaled at Claiborne Farm on April 6, 1954. He was bred and owned by Wheatley Stable and trained by Jim Fitzsimmons. The star of the Phipps' family stable, Bold Ruler won his first five races as a two year old, including the Youthful and Juvenile Stakes. As a three year old in 1957, Bold Ruler was named "Horse of the Year", winning 11 of 16 races, and earning $415,160. His only unplaced effort was a fourth-place finish in the 1957 Kentucky Derby.

For Bold Ruler, 1958 was also a phenomenal year. He carried 133 pounds or more in every one of his seven starts, winning the Toboggan, the Carter, the Stymie, the Suburban and the Monmouth Handicaps, en route to the sprint title. Carrying 136 pounds in the Brooklyn Handicap on July 26, Bold Ruler was unplaced and his ankle later flared up. He was retired with a lifetime record of 23-4-2 from 33 starts, with earnings of $764,204. Bold Ruler had a brilliant stud career at Claiborne Farm before cancer led to him being euthanized in 1971.

Here in the 38th running of this grades stakes event .. #4 SALUTOS AMIGOS has turned in "POWER RUN PERFORMANCES" in five straight starts, hitting the board in four, including a "POWER RUN WIN" in his 5th race back. Jockey Cornelio Velazquez and Trainer David Jacobson send him to the post ... they've hit the board with an impressive 62% of nearly 200 entries saddled as a team to date. #6 RICER ROCKS, the morning line favorite, is the pace profile leader, and has hit the board in five straight, winning three times, including a pair of "POWER RUN WINS" including in the recent streak of racing consistency.

# 11 FOR THE PEOPLE 8/5

# 3 DIAMANTE MOBILE 3/1

# 12 COCABELLA MYST 6/1

FOR THE PEOPLE looks very good to best this field. With a sound 75 average Equibase Speed Figure at the distance, seems well suited for today's contest. She looks respectable in this slot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the midpoint. Had one of the best Speed Figures of this field in her last race. DIAMANTE MOBILE - Ought to be carefully examined here if only for the very good speed figure recorded in the last race. With Baze in the saddle guiding her, this filly will most likely be able to break out sharply in this race. COCABELLA MYST - Her 61 average has this filly with among the top speed figures for this event. I can't pass on this filly given one of the most favorable jock and trainer combos on the grounds.

Meadowlands - Race #5 - Post: 9:00pm - Allowance - 5.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $37,500 Class Rating: 89

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#9 PAPADOPALOUS (ML=9/2)
#6 OAK BLUFFS (ML=6/1)
#5 CHUBBLE MAKER (ML=6/1)

PAPADOPALOUS - Have to give this gelding a fair chance. Ran a nice contest last time around the track within the last 30 days. Have to like the way Machiz has raced this gelding back into shape off the layoff. Animal is well spotted in this sprint and I think he'll run well today. Entered a $40,000 Claiming race at Belmont in the last race and raced on the soft turf finishing fourth. Will do better right here. Personally, I wouldn't worry about where he finished in his last race (fourth). Should rebound in this event, with some decent odds. Running on the turf today, you should review a horse's class. This one has the top number in the bunch. OAK BLUFFS - This should be an easier task than what he was asked last time out against 'open' company. Equibase speed figures on the turf point to this entrant as a legit contender. Has the best in the field for this distance/surface. This gelding has a ton of ability on the turf. Could be long gone by the time they hit the top of the lane. CHUBBLE MAKER - This equine collects a lot of cash per race. In the top spot in this clash.

Vulnerable Contenders: #11 CHASER (ML=4/1), #8 JERSEY JET (ML=5/1), #7 MOONLIGHT BLAZE (ML=6/1),

CHASER - This colt hasn't had any recent good results in short distance affairs. No picnic to invest in him in this contest. JERSEY JET - If today's event shapes up right, all the speedballs will force a pretty mean speed duel early. Too bad this horse is one of those front runners. This gelding earned a speed rating in his last clash which likely isn't good enough in today's event. MOONLIGHT BLAZE - Didn't let me see any zip in the route affair for me to back him in today's sprint affair.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

Go with #9 PAPADOPALOUS on top if we're getting at least 7/2 odds

#7 ONETIMEISALLITAKES (ML=5/2)
#4 NOONTIME BADGE (ML=8/1)
#5 VISCIOUS LIES (ML=10/1)

ONETIMEISALLITAKES - The rest of the field may trail this thoroughbred all the way around the track. This jock and conditioner have a favorable ROI when they team up. I really like sprinters that make a quick turnaround. Poole brings him right back. I suggest you stay with this hot gelding. Each one of this gelding's recent finish positions has been progressively better. NOONTIME BADGE - Trainer Moyers gave this gelding a good stiff work. Last one was 2nd fastest of the day. Trainer Moyers moves this animal to a lower level to face a lower rated field. Look for a good performance racing against these lower level horses. VISCIOUS LIES - The fact that this gelding is entered right back into a race so quickly means he's fit and ready. Comes out of a last event against 'open' company on October 18th and faces what I believe are easier 'state breds' today. Entered a $5,000 Claiming race at Mountaineer last out and raced on a muddy track finishing sixth. I'd expect a better race right here in this race. This horse's last race was out at Mountaineer in a race with an Equibase class figure of 70. Dropping considerably in Equibase class figure this time out puts him in a solid position right here in this race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1A NORTHERN HALF (ML=8/5), #1 NORTHERN BRIDGE (ML=8/5), #2 OVERSIZED (ML=7/2),

NORTHERN HALF - The speed figs continue to drop, 69/59/41. Not a positive omen. NORTHERN BRIDGE - This mount likes to hit the board, but doesn't usually win. Keep out of the top spot. OVERSIZED - This runner will probably need at least one more start after the lackluster showing following the very long layoff.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

Go with #7 ONETIMEISALLITAKES on top if we're getting at least 2/1 odds

The Walker Group Picks

# 6 LYNNWOOD 9/2

# 3 MARCADO 12/1

# 8 PIGTAILS 5/2

My selection in this competition is LYNNWOOD. Has formidable Equibase Speed Figs and has to be considered for a bet in here. Had one of the top Equibase Speed Figures of this group in her last competition. This equine has some longshot handicapping angles going for her. MARCADO - The average Equibase class figure alone makes this horse a key contender. McKenzie has this mare running well and is a decent choice based on the very good speed figs earned in sprint races as of late. PIGTAILS - Have to assume this horse will make a good impression again this time around. This animal has to be in sound condition coming back to race so soon.
