The Walker Group Picks

# 2 TAKIN ON EQUATICS 3/2

# 1 SHARP M EYE 2/1

# 3 THENEXTBIGZOOM 4/1

My choice in here is TAKIN ON EQUATICS. Should be given a chance here on the basis of the figures in the speed department alone. Martinez will almost certainly be able to get this gelding to break out early in this race. Garnered a competitive Equibase Speed Figure last time out. SHARP M EYE - Martinez has this mare moving well and is a respectable selection based on the decent Equibase speed figs posted in short races recently. Luark ought to be able to get this mare to break out sharply for this race. THENEXTBIGZOOM - This horse has some longshot angles I like to take a chance on.

#5 INDIAN ARTIFACT (ML=5/1)
#6 QUEEN OF HEAT (ML=9/2)

INDIAN ARTIFACT - Ranked number 1 in earnings per start (EPS). Another notice that this horse is the class of the field. QUEEN OF HEAT - I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run her best in the 3rd or 4th start back. This filly is in good form. Ran second on Mar 26th. Just check out her recent rating, 78. That one fits well in this group.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 HARBORTON (ML=9/5), #7 SHESMORETHANATIGER (ML=5/1), #4 SUNDAY DREAMS (ML=6/1),

HARBORTON - This mare hasn't had any on the board results in sprint races in the last couple months. SHESMORETHANATIGER - Quite unimpressive speed rating last time out at Hawthorne at 6 1/2 furlongs. Don't believe this runner will improve too much today. SUNDAY DREAMS - Tough to take this entrant at the price after the result (fifth) in the last race. Can't play this less than sharp equine in today's sprint of 6 furlongs. Hasn't even finished in the money in a sprint race recently. The rating last out doesn't fit very well in this affair when I look at the class figure of today's event. Mark this horse as a possibly overvalued equine.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - INDIAN ARTIFACT - Class figure today of 84. Taking a drastic drop in the level of competition and should respond to easier company. Worth a wager.

Handicapped by Ellis Starr at Keeneland

Race #5 - Rating = 2

#5 Charismatic Pulpit - Fair odds 3/1
#3 El Zohan - Fair odds 3/1
#4 Simon Eyes - Fair odds 4/1
#9 Artemus Coalmine - Fair odds 4/1

Exacta: Box 3,4,5,9

Charismatic Pulpit was returning from 3 months off on 3/20 when 6th, so now making his 2nd start off a layoff and more importantly moving back to Keeneland, where he earned his only win, he's got a big shot. Trainer Hobby saddled him for that win and got him back in the barn before the comeback so there are more reasons to think the gelding can run as he did in the fall over the track.

El Zohan won the first time he ever ran on an all-weather track, at this basic six furlong trip, last December, off a layoff, then he missed by a nose before taking 2 1/2 months off. Having fired to win fresh and with leading man Leparoux getting on for a trainer (Maker) that he wins a lot of races for, expect another top effort form this gelding.

Simon Eyes makes his 2nd start at the meeting, which often results in a better effort than the first, having run 2nd of 8 on 4/10 at the lower 20K non-winners of 2 lifetime claiming level. He earned his only win here at Keeneland, winning by 4 lengths, so it's not hard to imagine him taking a step forward 2nd at the meeting to win.

Artemus Coalmine drops into a claiming race for the 1st time, off a poor 9th of 10 finish on 4/5, his first start after 2 months off. His other three races were excellent efforts, a win and two runner-up finishes, so with Rosario riding back and facing easier he rounds out a fairly evenly matched quartet of contenders in this non-winners of 2 lifetime claiming race in which all the entrants have one win and a number of losses.

#7 PARIS LUC (ML=10/1)
#2 UNEXPECTED SPIN (ML=6/1)
#4 MY DADDY'S JEWEL (ML=9/2)

PARIS LUC - Was in a $12,500 Claiming race at Oaklawn last time out. That clash had a class rating of 77 and she is moving down right here in this race. A certain strong challenger. This front running sort is shortening up today. Should increase her likelihood of winning. Entered a $12,500 Claiming race at Oaklawn last out and raced in the mud finishing tenth. Will do better right here in this race. UNEXPECTED SPIN - Mare won her last race here on Mar 23rd as a shipper. I think she looks like a winner once again. Stanley rode this horse for the first time in the last race and comes right back in today's race. The rider/handler tandem of Stanley and Howard has a strong return on investment together. A thoroughbred coming back this soon after a solid effort is a good sign. Look at this mare's PP lines. With each race she keeps getting closer. MY DADDY'S JEWEL - Stokes and Kopp have had fabulous success together over the last twelve months. Have to like this mare today. If you take a look at her PP lines you see a definite trend, getting closer with each race. This animal has increased her speed figures in each of the last two races. That kind of progress is worth taking a look at. I like to play this handicapping angle, a thoroughbred coming back off a strong effort within the last 30 days.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 REACHFORTHECLOUDS (ML=2/1), #5 TRIPPI'S VALENTINE (ML=5/2), #6 COWGIRL MAGIC (ML=6/1),

REACHFORTHECLOUDS - This morning-line choice hasn't raced or worked at the track in awhile. No morning blow outs since last race. Never really did much at all in the last race on March 30th. Hard to wager on in today's event. This steed ran a most unsatisfactory speed rating last time around the track. She shouldn't improve and will likely suffer defeat in today's event running that figure. TRIPPI'S VALENTINE - You always think this equine has a shot to cross the finish line in first, but she comes up short most every time. Lower level horses have a difficult time coming back after two stiff stretch runs. COWGIRL MAGIC - 6/1 odds isn't enough for this thoroughbred when scrutinizing the most recent outings.

Bet on #7 PARIS LUC to win if we can get at least 7/2 odds

# 5 GO MARELIN GO 8/1

# 9 DUO 3/1

# 8 JANNY'S GIRL 5/1

I've got to go with GO MARELIN GO and could score at a price in here. With Santos on top her, this filly should be able to break out early for this race. DUO - Recent numbers for the jockey - 21 win percent - make this filly stand out in this group of horses. JANNY'S GIRL - She should have a good outing versus this less demanding field of horses. Has the appearance of a lucrative wager.
