RACE #8 - AQUEDUCT - 4:41 PM EASTERN POST

The Distaff Handicap

6.0 FURLONGS DIRT GRADE II FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD $200,000.00 PURSE

#1 LA VERDAD
#7 MY PAL CHRISY
#4 MUNNINGS SISTER
#5 KAUAI KATIE

#1 LA VERDAD has won an impressive 6 of 7 starts in her career to date sprinting at 6.0 furlongs on the dirt, is the pace profile leader in this stakes field, and has nice early speed abilities to compliment. She's hit the board in five straight starts, winning four times in this recent streak of racing consistency, with three of those "Circle Trips" also qualifying as "POWER RUN WINS." Jockey Jose Ortiz has been in her irons on 8 previous occasions, hitting the board in 7 of those outings, winning 6 times, and is back this afternoon here at "The Big-A" gunning for a 7th "Circle Trip1" #7 MY PAL CHRISY is the overall speed leader in this stakes field, and has hit the board in five straight starts, with four of those efforts also qualifying as "POWER RUNS."

#9 JENNY'S ROCKET (ML=5/2)

JENNY'S ROCKET - This rider and conditioner are reliable together. Win percentage when teamed up is very hard to one up. Believe in this horse. Coming off the pace, I think she'll be in a fabulous spot to bury them in the stretch. Is ranked number one in the field in earnings per race entered. A powerful outing right here can add to that total. This filly's last speed figure is strong enough to score here, I'll wager on her right back this time out.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 TRIO OF MISCHIEF (ML=4/1), #6 BACK WITH SUE (ML=5/1), #4 DOUBLE REACTION (ML=6/1),

TRIO OF MISCHIEF - Finished second in her most recent performance with a disappointing fig. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this field. BACK WITH SUE - The Brain always tells me to keep away from horses in sprint contests that haven't hit the board in sprint affairs of late. That was merely not a very good showing in the last contest. DOUBLE REACTION - Most unsatisfactory rating last race out at Calder at 5 1/2 furlongs. Don't feel this less than sharp equine will improve too much in today's race.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - JENNY'S ROCKET - I'm making a bet on this one. The bullet work tells me she's fit and ready for action. Do yourself a favor and play this horse.

# 5 QUIET ILLUSION 3/1

# 7 PRECIOUS AFFAIR 5/2

# 2 COWGIRL PRINCESS 6/1

I've got to go with QUIET ILLUSION. Should land in the top three without any trouble. Has run admirably when racing a dirt sprint race. Recent figs for the jockey - 23 win percent - make this mare stand out in this field. PRECIOUS AFFAIR - She has been racing soundly lately while recording strong speed figures. Looks decent against this field and should be one of the leaders. COWGIRL PRINCESS - Must be considered given the class of races run recently. Overall the speed figures of this racer look decent in this contest.

Handicapped by Ellis Starr at Keeneland

Race #9 - Rating = 2

Coolmore Lexington Stakes

#1 Mr Speaker - Fair odds 5/2
#6 Divine Oath - Fair odds 5/2
#10 Supermonic - Fair odds 7/2
#7 Ami's Holiday - Fair odds 4/1

Mr. Speaker just finished 2nd, beaten a half-length, in the Grade 3 Palm Beach Stakes in Florida, rallying fast from last of 12 in a big effort with a career best 101 Equibase Speed Figure. He's never run on an all-weather surface but as a horse who has run well on turf in four of his five tries over the surface he should have no issue making the transition, particularly as his half-mile workout at Keeneland since shipping in was a rock solid 46.2 that was the 3rd best of 63 on the day at the distance. With jockey Lezcano up for his last win, in a similar stakes, the Grade 3 Dania Beach, and riding him today, and with the ground saving rail to help him relax before finding a path or circling the field, Mr. Speaker should be very tough.

Divine Oath is a perfect 2 for 2 in his career and was entered in last weekend's Toyota Blue Grass Stakes with a hope of getting into the Kentucky Derby field but he was #15 in a 14 horse field and with no horse withdrawing he did not have the opportunity to race. He improved markedly in his 2nd start off his first, earning a 102 Equibase Speed figure on par with the 101 Mr. Speaker earned in his stakes try last month, and like Mr. Speaker although he's been running on turf, making the transition to an all-weather surface should not be an issue so he's very much a contender.

Supermonic won as he pleased by 7 lengths here at Keeneland just 6 days ago so trainer Pletcher (who also saddles Divine Oath) gives him a shot at stakes company, the 99 Equibase Speed Figure earned close enough to the top choices that with further improvement he could also succeed in this situation.

Ami's Holiday makes his first start since last December and was a highly regarded 2 year old, winning the important Grey Stakes in Canada over an all-weather surface, before being sidelined. He won in his debut and has been working well for his comeback but the other contenders have all run this year and if all move forward at the same rate Ami's Holiday could be a bit behind them in terms of conditioning. Just the same, he fits at this level and could just as easily give a good account of himself today.

Note: #3 Dynamic Impact was one of my contenders as well but he is also entered in the Illinois Derby and it has been stated by his trainer he will run in that race. If that proves to be untrue and he runs in this race he should be considered a contender.

# 5 RONDA ROCKS 9/2

# 4 TOPPERS SUNSHINE 6/1

# 1 LILLY'S PERFECT 6/1

I think RONDA ROCKS is a quite good choice. With Bejarano controlling the reins on her, this mare ought to be able to break out early for this event. Has been travelling in the most competitive company of the field as of late. Has earned reliable speed figures in turf route races in the past. TOPPERS SUNSHINE - Love when any racer makes a quick turnaround. Overall the speed figures of this horse look competitive in this affair. LILLY'S PERFECT - The average class figure alone makes this horse a key contender. Sound average Equibase Speed Figs in turf route races make this horse a solid contender.

#6 LAURA BEASLEY (ML=9/2)
#2 CIAO VALENTINA (ML=4/1)

LAURA BEASLEY - This mare is in first-rate condition right now. Finished fourth last time out and comes back soon. McFarlane has a very great win percent in grass routes. This mare should be ready to win. This horse could be a possible overlay right here at odds of 9/2. Finished fourth in last race at Turf Paradise but was close at the end. CIAO VALENTINA - This filly is in first-rate form right now. Ended up second in the last race and comes back quickly. Last raced at Turf Paradise with a poor post position. I swiped some data from The Brain, and his computer says the inside should be a big help to this one today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 BILBAO (ML=5/2), #8 CU AT SUNUP (ML=3/1), #5 ROSES FOR JONI (ML=5/1),

BILBAO - This favorite ran on Mar 17th and hasn't had a drill after that. Quite unimpressive speed figure in the last race at Turf Paradise at 7 1/2 furlongs. Don't think this mount will improve too much in today's event. CU AT SUNUP - This mare showed little last time out. This mare will probably bounce, and not come anywhere near the most recent speed figure of 91. ROSES FOR JONI - Hasn't been getting close at all of late.
